My name’s Jean. Born in 1972 in a beautiful and peaceful city in Malaysia – Ipoh. I graduated with an Accountancy degree in New Zealand in year 1995 and was working in Singapore for over 10 years till 2006. Gained membership as a Chartered Accountant with New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants in year 1997 and obtained my Masters Degree in Finance through a distance-learning program with University of Leicester, UK in year 2005.
For the past 10 years of my working life in Singapore, I truly became a full-fledged competitor in the Rat Race. I saw many Singaporeans like myself, working hard to chase after unreachable financial dreams. There were even many who, despite their high salaries, were buried in credit card debt, living in houses and driving cars that they could barely afford, spending more than they should on branded goods and a fancy lifestyle, and putting little, if not nothing away for the future. This cycle seemingly went on and on till sometime during middle-age when the realization dawns that time was running out to achieve any form of financial freedom!
This drove me to search for an understanding of the true meaning of Financial Freedom and a means to achieve it. The definition of this from Google search is:
“Financial freedom describes a well-planned lifestyle where one no longer is required to work for income to cover their expenses. Simply said, financial freedom is one point in life when you do not work for money anymore.”
From the above, what hit me was how could I create enough income and to continue receiving income passively without working but instead be able to focus on the things that are really meaningful in my life. This got me started on the notion of “passive income” and how I could have enough income streaming into my bank account while I’m enjoying life?
When my family and I moved back to Ipoh in year 2006, I have been in search of opportunities that will provide me with this “passive income” that could help me achieve my Financial Freedom dream. I found what I am good at and interested in – investments and financial planning. I have since become a registered unit trust consultant with FMUTM in 2006. I have this to say, that I have no regrets of my choice and I am seeing the “passive income” already building although I’ve only been actively involved for less than 2 years.
Having great passion of achieving financial freedom is the driving force for me creating this blog. I hope through this means, I will be able to share with readers how I’ve started on my way and how to truly make our hard earned money work harder for us!
